Caucasus Analytical Digest

The Caucasus Analytical Digest (CAD) is a monthly internet publication jointly produced by the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Tbilisi (www.boell.ge), the Research Centre for East European Studies at the University of Bremen (www.forschungsstelle.uni-bremen.de), the Jefferson Institute in Washington, DC (www.jeffersoninst.org) and the Center for Security Studies (CSS) at ETH Zurich with support from the German Association for East European Studies (DGO).

The Caucasus Analytical Digest analyzes the political, economic, and social situation in the three South Caucasus states of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia within the context of international and security dimensions of this region’s development.

 

CAD is supported by a grant from the Heinrich Boell Foundation and partial funding from the Jefferson Institute.

No. 10: The EU Investigation Report on the August 2008 War and the Reactions From Georgia and Russia

This issue of the Caucasus Analytical Digest presents a number of different points of view on the conflict in Georgia and on the September 2009 report of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission. It includes articles on the background of the conflict, Georgia's position in the EU's outlook, the South Caucasus in the international spotlight and the conduct of military operations during the August 2008 war.

No.9: Organized Crime and Illegal Trafficking in the Caucasus

This issue discusses the security threats emanating from networks of crime and corruption in the South Caucasus. It analyzes the Georgian Mafia, their activities and evolution in the 1990s, and evaluates the success of Georgia's fight against organized crime. The publication also provides an opinion poll on the reliability of and trust towards the police in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia and a chronicle of the events in the Caucasus between 17 July and 15 September 2009.
